Eugene W.M. Ng, MD

Dr. Ng is a Johns Hopkins and Harvard trained retina surgeon, and resides in Hawaii. He specializes in the management of complex retinal diseases, uveitis, and ocular trauma in adults and children. Dr. Ng is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Ng completed his residency in ophthalmology and fellowship in retina at The Wilmer Eye Institute, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. He completed a second  fellowship in pediatric retina and uveitis at Children’s Retina Institute in Los Angeles. Earlier, Dr. Ng was a research fellow in retina at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, where he conducted preclinical research on novel drugs for retinal diseases. He has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed medical journals, including Nature Reviews, Archives of Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology, Retina, and British Journal of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Ng has extensive experience in the development of new drugs and medical devices for blinding eye diseases, and translating these developments to the bedside. As a researcher at Harvard, he led an effort in the preclinical development of Trovan (trovafloxacin), a novel antibiotic, for severe ocular infections. Later in his career, he served on the management team of Eyetech Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company that developed Macugen (pegaptanib sodium), the first anti-VEGF agent for the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration. Approval of Macugen by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) subsequently catalyzed the development of newer anti-VEGF drugs, which have now become the standard of care in the treatment of many retinal diseases worldwide. Following these experiences, Dr. Ng spent several years as an investor in biotechnology and medical device companies.

Dr. Ng currently serves on the clinical advisory board of biotechnology company Aerpio (diabetic retinopathy), and advises companies and investors on the development of new drugs for blinding eye diseases. He also remains active in clinical research. Dr. Ng is co-founder of Physicians Staffing Solutions, LLC, a virtual, back-office staffing and service support solution For
